Summertime has come again! If you do not have the money, time or resources to take a real, full week’s summer vacation, a fun day trip is just for you! There are so many things to do in this beautiful state; from the amazing mountains to the lovely beaches, and everything between. I’ve created my Top Seven Day Trip destinations all across the North Carolina’s. So let’s pack up the car and get ready for a summer adventure!

1.   Biltmore Estate

The Biltmore Estate is located in Ashville, NC. This 8,000 acre estate is America’s largest home with the Blue Ridge Mountains at your fingertips. You can enjoy activities like hiking and exploring their beautiful gardens and grounds. Or even have a relaxed picnic with family, friends or your loved one. You can also catch a show under the stars with your favorite artists during their Biltmore Concert series.

2.   Slide Rock

Sliding Rock is located in Brevard, NC, in Pisgah National Forest. Looking Glass Creek cascades about 60' feet over a smooth sloping rock and drops into a 6-7' feet deep pool. You can actually go sliding down this natural waterfall, hints "Sliding Rock." The slide is a Forest Service recreation area with lifeguards and staff on duty from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

3.   North Carolina Zoo

Visit the North Carolina Zoo in Ashboro, NC, to see 1,600 animals in their natural habitats. This zoo is the nation’s largest habitat walk-through zoo that delivers fun for family and friends. You are able to have face-to-face encounters with the animals- from polar bears, alligators, gorillas, giraffes, zebras and more. You can also enjoy cultural and enchanting outdoor arts and activities, as well as visit their glorious gardens. The North Carolina Zoo is approximately 1,500 total acres, so make sure you pack your sneakers!

4.   Grandfather Mountain

Grandfather Mountain has been an icon in NC’s landscape for generations, offering stunning scenery and unmatched natural diversity. This state park is located in Linville, NC, and is approximately 5,946' feet above sea level. Can you say, "SITTING ON TOP OF THE WORLD.” Grandfather Mountain offers trails where you can hike or bike, and behind the scenes tours of the animal’s habitats. You can also walk the mile high swing bridge or just enjoy the beautiful scenery and embrace the high country.

5.   Top of the Hill Distillery

North Carolina has been a state that has kept a tight hold on service and sale of spirits (alcohol). A change in the law has loosened the cap on existing restrictions. Craft breweries and distilleries have swept the state in the past years, transforming a once small industry into a major source of tourism and economic growth. Top of the Hill Distillery is located in Chapel Hill, NC, offering the only green+ certified distillery in the country. You can schedule a tour of the facility as well as full tasting of their organic spirits line here. Cheers to That!

6.   U.S. National Whitewater Center

One of the most visited attractions in the Charlotte, NC area is the U.S. National Whitewater Center. This center is dedicated to the promotion of the active, outdoor lifestyle. USNWC offers a wide variety of outdoor activities for all ages and skill levels. For those looking to kick back- live music, concerts and outdoor festivals, create a unique atmosphere of relaxation and fun!

7.   Wilmington Beach

Wilmington Beach has everything you love about a historic Southern city, plus three beautiful beaches - Carolina Beach, Kure Beach and Wrightsville Beach. One of my best friends just visited Wilmington Beach, and states, "Wilmington Beach was one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever visited!” She continues, “It’s the perfect place for serenity and offers lots of fun!” With both village charm and a cosmopolitan lifestyle, Wilmington Beach offers great dining, unique shops and a vibrant nightlife.
