If you’re like my family, the lack of visiting the State Fair of Texas in Fall 2020 has hit your social calendar hard. I mean, is it even worth trying to find something to do if it doesn’t involve mass quantities of fried food, the annual selfie in front of Big Tex, live performances, and pig races?

The short answer is “Yes!” There are still lots of fun Fall things to do around the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex that allows you to enjoy the beautiful weather, celebrate Halloween, and take the recommended social distancing precautions.

A lot of businesses have figured out ways to still operate in these crazy times, taking extra cleaning steps and setting up for proper social distancing. Be sure to check online ahead of time for information about ticket and Covid-19 requirements. While some of these events are specific to October and Halloween, events like Dallas Art Outdoors and Outdoor Movies appear to be sticking around for months to come!

Autumn at the Arboretum – now through November 1st

What better place to take in the beauty Mother Nature has to offer this time of year than the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden? Limited ticket availability for specific time slots means an easier time social distancing as you stroll through displays of autumn flowers and pumpkins.

Drive Boo Halloween - Friday and Saturday nights through October 31st

If you live at Camden Victory Park, you may have noticed something spooky going on across the street at the American Airlines Center Silver parking garage. This drive-through haunted house allows for a family friendly Halloween experience, safe in your vehicle from any germy goblins or ghouls.

Hall’s Pumpkin Farm and Corn Maze – now through October 31st

Located in Grapevine, just west of DFW Airport, Hall’s Pumpkin Farm is about a 15-minute drive from Camden Riverwalk or Camden Centreport. While not all of their attractions are open this year due to the pandemic, they are still happy to offer hayrides, an approximately 2-acre corn maze, homemade kettle corn and cider, and, of course, lots of pumpkins!

Dallas Art Outdoors

The Dallas Museum of Art has, so far, put together two maps of public artworks around DFW. While the first map keeps you in and around Downtown Dallas, the second map ventures out further, including works in Grand Prairie and Plano. As these works are outdoors in public areas, they can be enjoyed either from your vehicle or by taking a stroll.

Outdoor Movies

I didn’t realize until I was writing this blog that there are so many places to take in an outdoor movie around DFW! This is in no way all the outdoor movie options I found, just the ones that currently feature more movie options on a regular basis. The great news is so many options means there’s at least one outdoor movie location convenient to your Dallas – Fort Worth Camden community!

If you’re looking for a classic drive-in, Coyote Drive-in, just outside of downtown Ft. Worth, or Galaxy Drive-in, in Ennis, has been offering this experience for years. If you’re looking for something a little different, The Drive-In at the Central, mere minutes away from Camden Belmont and Camden Henderson, is currently showing a variety of Halloween movies with the Downtown Dallas skyline as the back drop.

If you don’t want to be confined to your vehicle the whole time, there are also restaurant/bars offering outdoor movies on a smaller scale. Jasper’s Uptown in Dallas features Backyard Cinema Nights every Thursday and Saturday. If you live in North Dallas, Ida Claire, a short drive from Camden Addison, is also featuring a Thursday Movie Night.

While it’s great to see so many businesses offering pandemic-friendly things to do all over the DFW Metroplex, there are also just as many fun ways to celebrate the season around your Camden home!

If you’re fortunate enough to live at Camden Cimarron or Camden Valley Park, now is the perfect time of year to take a socially distanced stroll around the Valley Ranch canals. If you live at Camden Farmers Market, take a walk across the street to the Dallas Farmers Market to pick up some seasonal fruits and vegetables. Make the most of your Camden community’s amenities with some ideas from my fellow blogger, Ellen.
