Let’s be honest, keeping your kids from saying “I’m bored” is its own challenge these days. Whether you are looking for activity inside your apartment home or out, have no fear - Legos are here! My son has recently been super interested in everything Legos. I wanted to surprise him with a cool Lego table for his room but found most are on backorder right now. My solution – DIY!
I searched for a low-to-the-ground table, just the right size for my project, and as expected, it was hard to find. I ended up improvising with a table that was the perfect length, joining two tables together to make the exact size I wanted. These tables were intended to be shoe shelves for a closet and only cost $13 each. I found mine at Target, but afterward, I saw many different kinds at Walmart and Home Goods. I put the two tables together and hot glued them along the crease end to end.
Next, I put down two Lego base plates on top. I used double-sided tape to put these down so that there was no bulge or bumps from glue underneath. I purchased a few additional colors of the base plates so my son can interchange them on top if he wants. You never know when a toy boat might need toy water, am I right? The two large, gray base plates I purchased for the top of the table were $5, and the two smaller white and blue base plates were $4.
The great part about using these shelves to make the table is the additional shelf below, perfect for toy storage! Who doesn’t love toy organization? I purchased two colorful storage bins for $3 at Target, and they fit perfectly on the middle shelf.
This toy table was super easy to make, half the cost of purchasing one premade, and doable in an instant without waiting for an order to come in.
When your kids aren’t participating in virtual learning, this DIY toy table will be another way to keep them entertained right in your apartment home!
