San Diego is known for its great authentic Mexican food, so it only makes sense that we know how to celebrate Cinco de Mayo as well! Here are a few celebrations definitely worth visiting.

First off is a three day Cinco de Mayo celebration in historic Old Town (near downtown) on May 6th, 7th and 8th. The celebration this year features three live music stages, cantina garden, low rider car show, historical demonstrations, and equestrian performances. There is fun for families, inclusive of a special kid’s area and stage. Old Town is a great location with easy walkability. If you don’t want to deal with walking and parking there is a convenient trolley stop right in Old Town. With plenty of great Mexican restaurants you will not run out of things to do and see.

Another option is to stop by the Organ Pavillion at Balboa Park. There you will find the Concierto Cinco de Mayo with music performed by Jarabe Mexicano, jazz ensemble, symphonic band, and wind ensemble. It is a free concert from 6-7pm on May 5th.

If you’re looking for something a little more lively, check out Cincoteca Dos as Puesto at The Headquarters. There will be a free show featuring music from TJ’s Nortec Collective, Javiera Mena, and Gepe. There are also plenty of margarita, beer, and taco specials. Even better, the Donut Bar will be there with churros!

However you choose to celebrate Cinco de Mayo I wish you a fun and safe day. If you are lucky enough to live at one of our Camden communities, it would be a great night to grill up some carne asada on one of our BBQs and enjoy a nice dinner al fresco out by the pool! Enjoy!
