Community is defined as a feeling of fellowship with others who share common attitudes, interests, and goals. I experienced the true sense of community at the 2019 Cigna Sunday Streets.

Described by the Mayor’s Office, “Cigna Sunday Streets Houston is an initiative to promote and improve the health of Houstonians. Cigna Sunday Streets Houston opens a stretch of streets normally reserved for cars and other vehicles to allow cycling, walking, dancing, socializing and provides a family-friendly opportunity to be physically active.”

I was immediately drawn to the rocking DJ that led me to  Operation Get Fit! From young to old, these ladies left no room for excuses to get up and get moving. The instructors led participants through a series of fun dance routines designed to get the blood flowing and the spirits lifted. I had a blast learning all about what the organization had to offer and witnessed a few impressive solo routines that left a lasting impression on the audience! Check out their website and gather your friends for a fitness class that takes the “work” out of workout!

I then spotted B Cycle! I’ve seen these stations setup around Houston near popular areas like Midtown Park. With Heights and Midtown being the most walkable/bikeable area in Houston why Uber when you can B Cycle? If it’s a quick stop to the grocery store, a ride to the park, or even a tour of downtown you can grab a bike and go. 90 stations throughout central Houston with over 600 bikes you can try it out for 30 minutes for just $3 dollars and if you love it (like I know you will) you can get a membership! Houston B Cycle has partnered with  Camden Houston Midtown properties (Camden City Centre, Camden Travis Street, Camden McGowen and Camden Midtown) and is offering a 25% discount on their annual membership. Not a resident yet? B Cycle even offers Student Discounts  to select universities.

The perks do not stop there! As a member of BCycle you'll have access to B Cycle Bites which is their perks list to participating restaurants and bars near B-Stations.

Before leaving I had to stop and check out pedal party. Pedal Party is a fun way to socialize with your friends while barhopping in pedestrian friendly neighborhoods like White Oak near Camden Heights to Midtown near Camden City Centre. Party without the guilt! Grab a group of friends or join a mixer and make new ones and pedal fast or pedal slow as you groove to your favorite tunes and share your favorite beverage!

There were so many different businesses that offered cool ways to stay active while still having fun! FOMO? Don’t worry Cigna Sunday Street will be here in Midtown on April 28th from noon to 4pm. You can even take a picture with Ace, Camden’s Mascot, at our photo cube #CamdenHappy.
