One of the many wonderful reasons to work at Camden are the abundance of opportunities to give back to your community! Through Camden Cares we are able to invest in and support those in need. Our Washington D.C. Team recently had the pleasure of volunteering at The Ronald McDonald House of Greater Washington D.C. in Falls Church, VA.

The Ronald McDonald House Charities is a non-profit charity that aims to ease the hardship on families with children suffering from illness. The RMHCDC is an on-site program that provides families with a “home-away-from-home” with access to quality healthcare and the support to be actively involved in their children’s care. The RMHCDC located in Falls Church, VA currently has 12 bedrooms to stay and is located right next to INOVA Children’s Hospital allowing children the access to specialized medical treatment at little or no cost! There are so many ways to give to this charity including donations, fundraising, run/walks, and many more! Our D.C. Mid-Atlantic Camden Communities hosted a Wish List Drive, but also wanted to take the time to participate in one of the on-site volunteer opportunities. We chose to provide a comfort meal and help with maintenance of the grounds.

Providing A Comfort Meal
Part of our volunteer team spent time shopping for and preparing a fresh meal for the children and families of the house to come home to after treatment. The team opted to do a burger bar including, beef, turkey, and vegetarian options! We also prepared fresh chicken caesar salad, pasta salad, and watermelon salad. The families we came across at the house expressed their sincere gratitude for us cooking for them and we enjoyed being able to make meal time delicious and easy for them!

MaintenanceThe other part of our volunteer team was getting outside on the grounds making the property look emaculate. From mowing, pruning and leaf pick up, to sweeping and gutter clean out, our team was ready and willing to sweat to help keep the house beautiful!

Wish List DriveOur communities hosted a drive gathering much needed items for everyday supplies that RMDH most often uses such as toiletries and snacks. We are so grateful for all of the donations we received!

The team had so much fun bonding and giving our time to a great charity. It is not only rewarding to give back by volunteering, but it also gives our Camden employees an opportunity to provide Living Excellence to our communities. How else has Camden Cares given back?
