The amazing people of Camden are more than leasing superstars or maintenance marvels, and they’re also big-hearted philanthropists who take great joy in giving back to their community. On September 12th, Camden Atlanta’s 120 teammates were able to give back to The Covenant House GA. It was a hot Georgia day, but team Camden was ready to work with smiles on their faces. The group divided into six teams to tackle some massive projects and spend a day of camaraderie with their friends and coworkers.

The Covenant House is a worldwide organization battling against youth homelessness and human trafficking. You can find them in six countries and 31 cities. In their 40 years, they have saved more than 1 million young people from a life of poverty, homelessness, and tragedy. Currently, they’re reaching over 80,000 youths per year. Our Camden group was incredibly taken with their long-term plans for their residents. The Covenant House is not only there for the first few hard nights, but they also give their young people life skills to succeed for many many years after they leave.

Our first team took on a deep clean of the youth’s bathrooms and then revamped the spaces with new mirrors, fun wall decals and new shower curtains. What we learned during this project is that the bathroom is a huge source of confidence for the youth at The Covenant House. This is where they can clean off after being on the street, and it’s where they can get ready for a new life either at high school, college or a new job. Another team helped with this goal of confidence and readiness by organizing the clothing closet where the youth can rebuild their wardrobes.

Our two outdoor teams took on a big brunt of the Georgia heat with their massive landscaping projects. The Covenant House has a multi acre campus with gorgeous trees, a green house, a basketball court and a wide field for games, picnics and their annual sleep-out event. This crew was weeding, power washing, raking, and perhaps most importantly, clearing debris from The Covenant House’s gate so it could close properly and give the residents a truly secure campus. We are incredibly grateful for our landscaping partner, Landmark Landscapes, for donating all the mulch needed for this project.

In addition to these big projects inside and out, our teams were able to do some large-scale meal prep and keep the residents well fed with meatloaf and veggies for the weekend. The craftiness continued with decorating signs to be used at an upcoming event. The list of tasks goes on and on!

The mission of The Covenant House aligns with Camden’s values and it is hard to imagine a more perfect match for our Camden Cares Day partner. It was a truly exceptional day of hard work, lots of laughs and outstanding results. We are so grateful!
