It is almost October! Here is a great list of things to do this October in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area.

  1. Maryland Renaissance Festival: Just outside of the Baltimore area, this festival is perfect for all ages. Grab a giant turkey leg to eat, enjoy local beer and wine, and try out a variety of other medieval foods. Activities range from live theater shows to archery to making wax hands. There are many things to shop for, so make sure that you bring cash to this event. You will also want to dress in comfortable clothes, but you have the option to rent a costume!

  2. Taste of DC: This is the largest food experience in the DC/VA/MD area. Not only can you try food from celebrity chefs to locals, but there are live music acts and kid events going on. Bring cash and consider Uber or Lyft for your ride home because you will be too full to drive.

  3. Butler’s Orchard Pumpkin Festival: This is the ultimate experience for pumpkin picking. There is a hayride, straw maze, giant slides and more. After you play and pick your pumpkin, grab a quick bite to eat. They also have a Farm Market where you can pick up desserts, produce, and other goodies.

  4. Crown Beer & Wine Festival: Just walking distance from Camden Shady Grove, this festival is a great way to try out new wine and beer. Enjoy live music, mingle with friends, and learn more about local breweries and vineyards.

 5.  Kentlands Oktoberfest: Choose to try a beer from the tasting menu, or casually browse this German-themed event. Authentic dancers will be in the Arts Barn and Kentlands Mansion. Between shopping and walking around, pick up some tasty food from one of the vendors.

6. Markoff’s Haunted Forest: With Halloween around the corner, this is the spookiest place to visit. This year’s theme is Dia de los Muertos. Be warned that this will be scary, so you may not be interested in every event.

 7. DC United vs NY Redbulls soccer game. Head to RFK Stadium and see US Men’s National player Paul Arriola battle it out against the fierce NY Redbulls team. Perfect for all ages.

If you are not a fan of going to larger events, there are a few good movies coming out in October. Check out “Blade Runner 2049”, “Jigsaw” or “The Mountain Between Us”.
